At Weecover, we believe that change in the insurance sector is driven by people who combine strategic vision, industry expertise, and a passion for innovation. Ascen Merino is exactly that kind of profile.
With a consolidated career in the insurance world and a marked interest in technology, she found Weecover to be the perfect place to unite her two passions: transforming a traditional sector with digital solutions and a disruptive approach.
We sat down with Ascen to get her firsthand vision on innovation, technology, and Weecover’s role in the transformation of the insurance industry.
What attracted you to the world of Insurtech, and why did you decide to join Weecover?
The Insurtech world attracts me because it bridges two things I am passionate about: innovation and technology applied to a traditional sector. While the industry has certainly stepped up its game, it still needs to evolve. Technology allows us to transform the customer experience and create business models that were previously unthinkable.
I am someone full of curiosity who enjoys change and challenges. I’m always eager to learn and admittedly a bit impatient when waiting for results. So, when I added all that up, Weecover was the perfect fit for me.
I saw the opportunity to join a team with the mindset and energy necessary to change the rules of the game, without losing sight of the future and always working with a practical approach.
What do you think is the biggest technological challenge that Weecover solves for an insurer or an MGA?
For me, the great challenge Weecover solves is simplifying complexity in a very rigid sector.
Insurance management and distribution are often slow and disconnected, with user experiences that leave room for improvement. Weecover transforms this with a flexible and scalable platform that integrates insurance natively, without friction, and with UX at the center.
Beyond being a reference in embedded insurance, Weecover is immersed in major projects linked to its SaaS solution. Through this, we are changing the relationship that insurers, MGAs, and other partners have with their clients, turning the sale of insurance into a fluid experience—almost invisible to the user, yet very powerful for the business.
We are successfully demonstrating that technology can truly transform insurance, making it simple, dynamic, and digital.
From your perspective, what is the main value that the embedded insurance model brings to companies and their customers?
The primary value of embedded insurance is its ability to make insurance feel natural and immediate by integrating it into the customer’s existing flow, without forcing them to leave their main experience.
- For companies, MGAs, and partners: It means improving their value proposition by being present in any channel, increasing conversion, and generating new revenue streams without engaging in massive developments that always cause friction.
- For customers: The value is even greater because they get the protection they need at the exact right moment—no endless forms, no external searches, and without feeling like it’s an imposed product.
The purchasing decision happens naturally because everything is aligned with their usage experience. This model is a powerful weapon because the customer’s perception is never one of a forced sale, but rather of added value. Ultimately, it’s a Win-Win formula where everyone benefits, and that is the true revolution.
What do you think differentiates the Weecover team within the insurance sector?
Now that I’m on the inside, I can confidently say that what truly differentiates the Weecover team is that we aren’t just a group of people who have to work together. We are a real team.
Everyone brings their unique experience, ranging from insurance expertise, sales skills, and customer communication, to technical support and IT. All of this is bound together by fluid communication and a common goal, making every challenge a shared one.
That shared focus completely changes the way we work and the results we achieve. We don’t work in silos or parallel tracks. Weecover works as a team with an energy that is contagious, and experience has taught me that this is always the most important thing.
